The latch is so secure, there's absolutely no way it's coming open unless you choose to open it. It's kind of a double latch - first, a latch that's similar to other “locking” cases, but better/more secure; then there's a metal clamp that fits over the latch. The clamp has a little roller piece that helps you get it on & off, but it's still tight. (Tight enough to involve a little struggle getting it on & off.)I really like the fact that the lid is attached to the body, with a spring hinge that pops open so you're not fighting to hold it back when you want to get your AirPods in or out.Before risking my AirPods near water, I stuck some paper towel inside, closed it up, and weighed it down in a bowl of water for about half an hour. When I opened it up, the paper towel was completely dry. The hinges had moisture in them, but it didn't reach the cavity. I also made sure it does work with wireless charging.This case is on the extreme side, but if you plan to take your AirPods on outdoor adventures or are just rough on them, it covers all the bases. It's a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for.
